December Holiday Party/Meeting

Due to events at the church, our December meeting will be two weeks earlier than usual, on the first Thursday of the month! Join us Thursday, December 5th at 7 pm for a Potluck, Swap, and Holiday Bazaar!
Where: St Andrew Catholic Church, 806 NE Alberta St., Portland, OR 97211 The meeting will be in the community center, which is behind the main church building. There are two parking lots.

No FQ Lotto this month!

Potluck:
Our potlucks are always so delicious! This year, please bring your appetite and the following:

  • Last name A-B: Please bring non-alcoholic drinks

  • Last Name C-M: Please bring a savory dish

  • Last Name N-Z: Please bring a sweet dish

Swap:
This year for our Holiday Swap, we'll be swapping containers made by you! This could be a fabric basket or bowl or a pouch, or something else that could fit the definition of "container" and is made out of fabric, by you! Make it special if you like by fussy cutting your fabric or using a fun trim or embellishment!

Please remember:

  • To wrap your swap in some way. It could be wrapping paper, a gift bag, or a simple brown bag that is sealed.

  • To put your name inside your swap package. (I still don't know who made my swap from 2 years ago!)

  • To do your best work! Make something you'd be happy to receive.

  • To be gracious, someone worked very hard on what you receive!

  • Extras are allowed, but not required.

Holiday Bazaar:
We'll have our Holiday Bazaar going again this year! What does this mean? That lots of member/vendors will be selling their awesome handmade goods! Just in time for stocking stuffers and other holiday presents!

  • Bring Cash to shop the sale (some members may offer credit card sales, but wifi can be unreliable in the church

  • If you'd like to vend your handmade items (only handmade items, thanks!), please sign up to reserve a table. It's free but you must go through the checkout process!

Anna Maria Horner Workshops!

We're so excited to bring back Anna Maria in January for 3 different workshops! Go to the website link for full info on each workshop and to sign up for a scholarship. Scholarships close on December 4th at 9 pm, and winners will be notified on December 5th.


All workshops will be on sale in the shop on Friday, December 6th at 6 pm.

Applique Stories Workshop

Date: Tuesday, January 28th, 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm (1/2 day)
Location:  TBD
Cost:  $50

Class Description:  Combining Anna Maria's interest in composing vignettes and handwork, she presents a class that covers all of the techniques necessary to create a visual feast of fabric and stitching. Multiple techniques for applique, raw and turned, by machine and by hand, are shared on top of a lesson in composition.

Folk Flower Block Workshop

Date: Wednesday, January 29th, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Location:  TBD
Cost:  $100

Class Description: Anna Maria Horner shares how to use machine reverse applique to create this simple but stunning floral block that can be combined very specifically with others, or more sporadically with some solid blocks for a varied look. She also offers tips of scaling the block to suit each quilter's hopes for their finished design. Because the sewing technique is so straight forward, Anna Maria has plenty of time to work with students one on one for fabric selection process.

Color Fluency Workshop

Date: Thursday, January 30th, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Location:  TBD
Cost:  $100

Class Description:  Anna Maria switches up traditional color conventions in order to develop stunning and individual palettes. Beginning with a traditional color wheel, Anna demonstrates how each color interacts with one another depending on its position in the wheel. Then using a fun color palette exercise with fabric,she guides students towards building an adventurous, yet theory based, palette.

You could go home from the Holiday Party with this beautiful, PMQG-made quilt! This quilt is our 2019 QuiltCon Charity Quilt and we will hold the raffle drawing on Thursday at our Holiday Party!. Purchase raffle tickets now or at the meeting, all the proceeds from the raffle tickets will go to the Oregon Food Bank. Tickets are 6 for $10

  • Open Sew Day--Saturday, January 4yh, 9:30 am-530 pm at Mill End Store, 4955 SW Western Ave., Beaverton (park around the side closest to Uwajimaya and knock on the keypad door if it's not propped open so you don't have to carry your supplies all through the store!)

Don't forget to bring:

  • Mugs for hot tea/cup for water

  • Show and Tell Quilts, we want to see what you've made! (1 per person, please)

  • Your contribution to the potluck (see above for what to bring)

  • Your swap item, wrapped in some way, if you are participating in the swap

  • Cash for Raffle Tickets to win the 2019 Charity Quilt! (see above)

  • Cash to purchase items at the Holiday Bazaar!

Cleanup After Meetings:
Thank you to everyone who helps set up for meeting, we really appreciate it! We are in need of more help after meetings though. If you’re physically able, please put away your own chair, and grab an extra one too if you can! Besides chairs we need assistance putting away tables, equipment, and the stage after meetings too.

Guests

Guests and non-members are welcome at guild meetings. Guests are free for the first visit; $5 for each visit after that. Please remember that to keep the guild running we need your support! If you've ever attended a meeting before, please be sure to pay the $5 guest fee or sign up for a membership at your next meeting!
