About PMQG
WE LEARN. WE SHARE. WE QUILT.
The Portland Modern Quilt Guild was formed in 2010 to come together in the spirit of learning and sharing our love of quilting and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Now over 350 members strong, it is the largest guild of the Modern Quilt Guild family.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to support and encourage the growth and development of modern quilting through art, education, and community.
The Portland Modern Quilt Guild fulfills its mission through charitable activities, member education, monthly member meetings, and volunteer opportunities.
OUR Values
We, the Portland Modern Quilt Guild, acknowledge, honor and actively uphold the fundamental value and dignity of all individuals. We pledge ourselves to creating and maintaining an inclusive organization built on encouragement and mutual respect, where all feel safe and welcome, and where diverse traditions, heritages, and experiences are respected and understood as a part of what helps to make us who we are.
Reports of any behavior contradictory to our supporting values will be investigated and, if necessary, met with consequences which may include permanent expulsion from the Portland Modern Quilt Guild as deemed appropriate.
Values
Diversity. PMQG supports and actively ensures the representation of different and unique identities, characteristics, experiences and perspectives. While we are all understood to be in various stages of learning, supporting and advocating for diversity, we will be expected to strive to that ideal. We expect this of our board, members, guests, speakers and teachers.
All Board members are understood to be in various stages of learning and applying antiracism, and will be expected to strive to that ideal. If a member(s) is believed to be promoting or applying racism, racist policies, or racist ideas, every effort should be made to respectfully identify this to the member(s) at issue by other member(s), and learning opportunities should be offered.
Equity. PMQG works to give everyone what they need to succeed by increasing access, resources, and opportunities for all; especially for those who are underrepresented and have been historically disadvantaged.
Inclusion. PMQG does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender identity and expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in its membership or any of its activities or operations.
Safety. PMQG will not tolerate any forms or perceptions of violence, intimidation, fraud, sexual harassment, gender, racial or age discrimination.
Integrity. PMQG will not tolerate any form of copyright infringement. This includes proper designer attribution of any and all work displayed to or by The Guild. This includes but is not limited to all guild websites, social media platforms, communications and presentations.
Activism. We recognize and acknowledge that our guild’s home city of Portland, Oregon has a long history of redlining, discrimination, and racism. As a guild, PMQG works to actively counter this negative history, supporting and amplifying those who have been under-represented and discriminated against. In politics and social justice, we use our craft as one of our many forms of education, expression and protest.
