From Idea to Foundation: Designing Your Own FPP Block

$50.00

Featuring Cat Sawyer, PMQG member and FPP aficionado
Saturday, October 24, from 10am - 1pm
TaborSpace, 5441 SE Belmont St, Portland, OR 97215

Bring your foundation paper piecing experience and explore how simple shapes can become original, pieceable blocks. We’ll use a small selection of fall- and Halloween-themed designs (such as a bat, apple, crow, or maple leaf) designs as shared examples for learning and practicing the design process: planning a block, dividing it into sections, choosing a stitching order, and making shapes easier to piece. Participants will draft at least one original 8-inch block pattern to take home and piece later.

You’re also welcome to bring an idea of your own to develop; working from your own design may be more challenging, so we’ll begin with the shared examples together. Basic familiarity with FPP is recommended. The design principles we explore can be applied to many themes and ideas.

This is primarily a pencil-and-paper design workshop. We’ll briefly survey some digital tools, but the focus will be on design principles that can be applied with a variety of tools and workflows.
