The first events are our monthly meetings, where we host speakers, present a block of the month, make announcements and have our inspiring Show and Tell. These meetings typically happen on the third Thursday of the month, but be sure to check out our event calendar, as there are some rare meetings we've had to move it to another Thursday.
Open Sew Days happen on the first Saturday of the month at Mill End Store Bring all of your sewing supplies and spend the day sewing with fellow PMQG Members. Be sure to look at the discount information on the Sew Day page!
We also offer a Charity Sew Day at Modern Domestic hosted by Cath Hall, our Charity Committee Chair. This is a once a month event, usually the week after the monthly meetings, however the schedule is dependent on Modern Domestic's class schedule, again, check out our monthly calendar or the Charity page for more information. Everything is provided at this sew day, so all you need to bring is yourself.
On the fourth Sunday of the month, we also host a Hand Sew Happy Hour from 2-4 pm at two locations in Portland. The Eastside location is Pix Patisserie at 2225 E Burnside Street, and the West side location is Jim & Patty's Coffee People at 4130 SW 117th, Beaverton.
In order to foster a welcoming atmosphere, we suggest to members to make a name tag to wear for not only PMQG monthly meetings, but all PMQG events. There are a ton of tutorials and inspiration on Pinterest for making your name tag. Be sure to bring yours to the monthly meeting, you'll get an extra raffle ticket!
Throughout the year, we invite national instructors to speak to our group and offer workshops. We do our best to publicize the information to all of our social media, be sure to check out the workshop pages for the most up to date information. Previous instructors include Alison Glass, Chawne Kimber, Kim Kight and Latifah Saafir, Anna Maria Horner and Denyse Schmidt.
Each October, we hold a PMQG Showcase, exhibiting a juried selection of member's quilts. As there is a space restriction, we do limit this event to PMQG Members only. Watch our blog/your email for RSVP information, and find out more info about the event here.
Every April, we host a Spring Retreat for approximately 30 members at Camp Tilikum. Members spend 3 days sewing from dawn to dusk. Next year's will be April 11-14th, 2019. Information for this event usually comes out in the beginning of the year with signups in early February.
PMQG hosts a few challenges throughout the year. In 2018, we have two challenges going on. The first is the Alison Glass Kaleidoscope Mini quilt challenge. In this challenge, members signed up to receive a bundle of 10 FQ generously provided by Andover Fabrics. Our members have until September 7th to submit their quilt for judging. At this time, all of the fabric bundles for this have been spoken for at this time. Be sure to come to our October Showcase to see what your guild mates have created!
The second challenge we have going on is the Sisters 2019 Special Exhibit theme which is Bountiful Rainbow Quilts. Members are challenged to create a rainbow quilt and all members who create one will have the opportunity to put forth their quilt for consideration to be included in the Sisters Special Exhibit.
