All members have access to the pattern and resources in the Member Resource Library! If you plan to participate in the sew along, you will need to sign up in order to receive the weekly sew along email and to be added to the MQG Sew Along Community group.

About the Pattern
Falling Stars is a confident beginner skill level pattern. This 60” x 66” quilt is a spin on the traditional sawtooth star block. Color is the real star of the show as light- and dark-valued fabrics lead the eye down strands of stars. The design lends itself well to a mix of solids, prints, or blenders, as well as planned or scrappy fabric placement. Makers can also coordinate swapping of fabrics or entire Falling Stars blocks for a truly unique community-built quilt.

This is a 9 week sew along, starting April 16, 2026.
Week 1: Project Planning
Weeks 2-3: Cut Fabric
Week 4: Make Half-Square Triangles (HSTs)
Week 5: Piece 10 Falling Stars Blocks
Week 6: Piece 10 Falling Stars Blocks
Week 7: Piece 5 Falling Stars Blocks + 5 Half Falling Stars Blocks
Weeks 8-9: Assemble the Quilt Top
Fabric
The Falling Stars pattern is an opportunity for you to use the fabric! Whether it’s scrap fabric, stash fabric, reclaimed fabric, new fabric, or any other flavor of fabric, use it in this project.
During Week 1 of the sew along, we will provide more information about what color value is and the role it plays in the Falling Stars design. Starting in Week 2, you will gather and prepare fabrics for the project. We encourage those who are interested in making this a guild project or those who want to swap fabrics or Falling Stars blocks with other members to prepare a general plan for exchange. That means your timeline that may look different than the sew along schedule we will follow.
