September 2019 Meeting Recap

PMQG September Meeting Recap

We had a packed house on Thursday, September 21 for guest Annabel Wrigley who joined us from Virginia to talk about her Doodle Quilts. Board VP Chris Batten did an amazing job of keeping the meeting going despite the power outage on the wall that powers our cordless mics.

Before kicking off the evening’s presentation, we celebrated some of the fantastic creations in the Figo Fabrics challenge. Although the deadline for submission has now passed, we would still love to see what you have made, so please contact the guild via email so we can display your mini quilt at the upcoming October Showcase at Lagunitas Brewing.

Remember that to attend the October Showcase, you must RSVP and get a ticket. No guests allowed at this space due to size restraints, PMQG members only. We will be checking a list at the door, so don't forget to RSVP right now! Parking near the Showcase is limited (and on the street). Members were encouraged to take public transportation or carpool.

The #100 Days100Blocks challenge is winding down to its last 20 and has already garnered over 600 photos and tags on Instagram. Our own Sam Hunter demonstrated a LOVE quilt using the Kinship blocks (#100days) designed by Gnome Angel. A new challenge! The 6-week Color Block of Love/Kinship challenge. Tag your progress with #PMQGlovesSam – she offered the guild 20% off patterns on her website using coupon code SAMLOVESPMQG20 and she will donate 50% of proceeds of sales using that code to the PMQG scholarship program. THANK YOU, Sam! The code is valid through Saturday, October 5th.

Chris previewed two of the terrific programs already planned for 2020 –

Annabel’s program included displays of her unique improv abstract creations, using solids, that combine fabric fused in layers, clear thread applique and tight straight-line quilting. Her technique was featured in this issue of Mod Block Quilting.

Fat Quarter Halloween swap winners were Virginia H, Brittany Scott, and Jennie McKee. Fantastic Door prizes this month including an Oliso iron donated by Sam Hunter and Best Press from Cath Hall https://wombatquilts.com/ were won by Janet Murdock. Virginia H also walked away with Quilter’s Dream batting donated by Quilter's Dream http://www.quiltersdreambatting.com/, a super cute fabric bundle, and Beehive pattern donated by Elizabeth Hartman https://elizabethhartman.com/. A Maywood gelato solids bundle, Palanco pattern and a wool mat were donated by Maywood Studio https://maywoodstudio.com/and captured by Tracy Dunlap.
