MArch 2019 Speaker
June 2019 Workshop
Sam Hunter is a fiber artist and quilt pattern designer. Sam started sewing when she was 7 and hasn’t really stopped since. She started quilting in her 20’s, and teaching quilting shortly thereafter.
Sam holds an MFA in Fiber Arts, and blends this classic training with her sense of play in all that she does. Sam believes that everyone has innate artistic talent, and loves helping people find theirs.
She’s a relaxed, encouraging, and generous teacher, who loves to share the joy of making beautiful things.
Sam will take us on a journey from the 1800s to present day with examples of putting words on quilts and other fiber arts. The lecture will include a trunk show of wordy fiber art created by Sam in both her fine art and quilting careers, including her recent ribbon winning quilt from QuiltCon.
Dingbats Redux Block Workshop
Date: Saturday, June 29th, 10 am to 5 pm
Location: Mill End Store, 4955 SW Western Ave, Beaverton
Dingbats Redux is a modern block based quilt with NO curved or set-in piecing. The quilt has two sizes of blocks, set into a generously sized lap quilt.
Skills: all straight seams, some bias edges, good 1/4'' seam accuracy needed, templates.
In class, we start with a fabric discussion, tuning fabric selections for the best results. Then we get to sewing, making one or two blocks for the day. We'll cover accurate 1/4'' seam setup, cutting with templates, stacked ruler cuts, tips for managing bias.
Sam is a fun, encouraging, and relaxed teacher who irons and rips for her students, and provides chocolate!
