Next, we welcomed any visitors, presented any new members present with a small gift, and wished any members with birthdays in July a Happy Birthday.
Then Kimberly presented some idea generators for our 2019 Sisters Exhibit Challenge: Rainbows. These included some rainbow quilts she has made in the past like a rainbow jelly roll quilt, a Bargello Rainbow, and a Tula Pink Butterfly in rainbow colors. She suggests to Google or search on Pinterest with the term “Rainbow Quilts.” This way you will not only come up with inspiration, but maybe even a pattern you’d like to use! Remember that quilts for Sisters do not have to be original designs, so don’t feel stressed to design something new if you’ve never designed something before.
Kimberly also brought some gadgets to help find color values including a red lens, a green lens and a 3-In-One color tool. Another gadget she suggests is using numbered pins to keep your cut pieces/blocks organized.
Information for our Charity efforts was presented next. We still need Zipper Bags! Find out more information about this effort on our webpage. August 24th is our next charity sew day at Modern Domestic from 10-4. At these charity sew days, everything is provided, just bring yourself! Be on the lookout at our meetings for ways you can contribute towards our charity program. Visit the table to pick up a wonky star block, a quilt to piece, quilt, or bind and to chat with the charity committee on other ways you can help.
2017 Officers Tania and Tamara are continuing to work on a travelling exhibit of our Words, Unbound challenge quilts. This exhibit will include not only the quilts from Sisters, but any other quilt created as part of the challenge. To find out more information about this exhibit and to see all of the quilts submitted so far, visit our webpage for more information. To submit your quilt, please email the guild at email@example.com
Next, Susan presented information about our upcoming Programs and Workshops. The Anna Maria Horner classes went on sale last week and are currently sold out. If you’re interested, be sure to visit the webpage about Anna and sign up on the waitlists. We were able to move 7 people off of the waitlist for our workshops with Chawne Kimber, so sign up on the waitlist soon!
Fabric dyer Anna Joyce will be speaking at our August 16th guild meeting. We will also be hosting a three hour workshop on August 25. The fee for this class is $30 plus a materials fee of $20. During the workshop you’ll learn all about Indigo dyeing and dye two tea towels.
We’ll also be hosting Christina Cameli for a free motion workshop entitled Free Motion Quilting: Textures and Grids on September 8th from 10-4. Christina was our speaker for our January meeting and is a fantastic instructor of Free Motion quilting via her books and Craftsy classes. The cost for this workshop is $60.
Both Anna Joyce’s and Christina Cameli’s classes will go on sale this Tuesday, July 24th at 6pm Scholarships are currently open and will accept names until Monday, July 23rd at 8 pm. Visit the PMQG pages linked above to apply.
Denyse Schmidt will be our featured speaker for our guild meeting on December 6th. On December 7th, we’ll be hosting her for her workshop Free Wheeling Single Girl and on December 8th, we’ll be offering the workshop, Woven. Find out more information about these workshops on our webpage, and be sure to mark the day they go on sale, August 15th at 6pm. If these classes sell out quickly, we’ll also be creating a waitlist for both workshops, so be sure to sign up on them as soon as possible! The scholarships available for these workshops will open up for applicants on August 6th.
Members need to make sure they pick up their Kaleidoscope Challenge fabric. Each member that sign up will receive 10 fat quarters (FQ) of Alison Glass’s new Kaleidoscope line. Using this fabric, members need to create a mini quilt using at least 6 of the colors. Because there has been such high demand for this challenge, we’re requesting that any fabric that has been unused in the challenge be returned to us so members on the waitlist can participate. For all of the challenge rules, be sure to check out the challenge page here.
Next, Susan introduced the July Fabric Fundraiser. Members donated fabric from their stashes for the sale and all of the money raised will be split evenly between Raphael House and Butterfly Boxes. Members were incredibly generous and PMQG raised a total of $2,108. One generous member approached the board and offered to match our total for a whopping $4,216 raised! Each organization will receive $2,108! Thank you so much to the anonymous member!
Next, we held our raffle. The winners were:
